If Phuket is the go-to place for beaches and Chiang Mai is Thailand's top pick for treks and waterfalls, then Buriram is the country's undisputed epicentre for all things sports.
Once a quiet Isaan town, Buriram has transformed itself into Thailand's official "Sport City" — home to the country's only FIA Grade 1 racetrack, its most successful football club and one of Asia's great night marathons. Best of all? Everything is within a 15-minute drive of the Grand Hotel Buriram.
It's lights out and away we go at Chang International Circuit, Thailand's premier motorsport venue.
Designed by legendary circuit architect Hermann Tilke, the 4.554-kilometre, 12-turn track is Thailand's only FIA Grade 1 and FIM Grade A circuit, with grandstands and hillside viewing for around 100,000 fans. It has hosted the MotoGP Thailand Grand Prix since 2018 — and in 2026 Buriram had the honour of opening the world championship season. World Superbikes, GT series and national racing fill out the calendar all year round.
Chang Arena: 32,600 seats, eleven league titles and the loudest matchday in Thailand.
Buriram United — the "Thunder Castle" — are the most decorated club in Thai football, with a record 11 Thai League 1 championships. Their home, Chang Arena, is the largest club-owned football stadium in the country, and on matchday the entire province turns navy blue. Catch a game and you'll understand why Buriram calls itself Sport City.
The Buriram Marathon: a World Athletics Gold Label race run under the stars.
Since 2017 the Buriram Marathon has grown into Thailand's number-one night marathon — a World Athletics Gold Label event with AIMS-certified courses that start at the racetrack in the evening and finish in the small hours. More than 35,000 runners now take part each January, cheered through the city by tens of thousands of locals. Even the fun run has local flavour: it is exactly 4.554 km — one lap of the circuit.
Race weekends sell out — and we're 15 minutes from the grid.
Grand Prix week fills every room in the province, so lock in your dates early. Our 62 retro-modern rooms put you 11.9 km from the circuit gates and 5.3 km from Chang Arena, with free parking, free Wi-Fi and a cracking breakfast to fuel your race day.
