WAT KHAO ANGKHAN
WAT KHAO ANGKHAN

Don't miss this quiet, little visited temple located on top of an extinct volcano.

Whilst this peaceful temple, situated atop an extinct volcano, has ancient roots – make sure you don’t miss the 8th- or 9th-century Dvaravati sandstone boundary markers – it is its modern additions that make Wat Khao Angkhan worth a visit.

Its eye-catching ordination hall and flamboyant side-buildings were erected in 1982 in red clay in an unusual nouveau-Khmer style. Inside, check-out the Jataka murals, painted by Burmese artists, which are accompanied with English captions.
